چکیده

Chemical Reaction Optimization (CRO) is a recently establishedmetaheuristics for optimization, inspired by the nature of chemical reactions. A chemical reaction is a natural process of transforming the unstable substances to the stable ones. In microscopic view, a chemical reaction starts with some unstable molecules with excessive energy. Themolecules interact with each other through a sequence of elementary reactions. At the end, they are converted to those with minimum energy to support their existence. This property is embedded in CRO to solve optimization problems. CRO can be applied to tackle problems in both the discrete and continuous domains. We have successfully exploited CRO to solve a broad range of engineering problems, including the quadratic assignment problem, neural network training, multimodal continuous problems, etc. The simulation results demonstrate thatCROhas superior performancewhen compared with other existing optimization algorithms. This tutorial aims to assist the readers in implementing CRO to solve their problems. It also serves as a technical overview of the current development of CRO and provides potential future research directions.

Tutorial Review: Simulation of Oscillating Chemical Reactions Using Microsoft Excel Macros

Oscillating reactions are one of the most interesting topics in chemistry and analytical chemistry. Fluctuations in concentrations of one the reacting species (usually a reaction intermediate) create an oscillating chemical reaction. In oscillating systems, the reaction is far from thermodynamic equilibrium. In these systems, at least one autocatalytic step is required. Developing an instinctiv...

Predictive modeling in homogeneous catalysis: a tutorial.

Predictive modeling has become a practical research tool in homogeneous catalysis. It can help to pinpoint 'good regions' in the catalyst space, narrowing the search for the optimal catalyst for a given reaction. Just like any other new idea, in silico catalyst optimization is accepted by some researchers and met with skepticism by others. The basic requirements for good predictive models are a...

Kinetic Mechanism Reduction Using Genetic Algorithms, Case Study on H2/O2 Reaction

For large and complex reacting systems, computational efficiency becomes a critical issue in process simulation, optimization and model-based control. Mechanism simplification is often a necessity to improve computational speed. We present a novel approach to simplification of reaction networks that formulates the model reduction problem as an optimization problem and solves it using geneti...

Tutorial on Model Checking: Modelling and Verification in Computer Science

This paper serves as background material for an invited tutorial on model checking given at the Third International Conference on Algebraic Biology (AB 2008). The intended audience of the tutorial were researchers in natural science, particularly life science, but this paper may also serve as a light-weight introduction into model checking techniques in general.
